Earth Hour 2009

I got the email from my buddy about this Earth Hour. But somehow my instinct tells me that this is just a piece of crap. (But I do appreciate your intention to sending me this email, steph :-)

Part of excerpts from the email:
On Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 8:30 pm, I am taking part in EarthHour – a global event in which millions of people will turn out their lights to make a statement of concern about our planet and climatechange. I want to invite you to join, too!
This year, Earth Hour will be even bigger – already 250 cities in 74countries have agreed to take part including Las Vegas, LosAngeles, Moscow, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Shanghai and MexicoCity. And right here in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur and several othercities will be turning out our lights, too.

Let’s show the world Malaysians are united in the fight againstglobal warming. Please pass this note along to anyone you thinkmight want to take part. Let's all come together and switch off ourlights on March 28 at 8:30 pm.

Now, this is what my instinct tells me:
Ok,so what if the lights are turned off for this 1-hour time? Are we actually will take this lesson and be more environmental savvy next time? Are we going to try to be pro-active in saving the environment for the future? Sure it will save global warming in an hour but what were we doing in those past decades? Does this really creting PERMANENT awareness among us? Can anyone show me the impact and the effect of this Earth Hour event? Show it to me statistically on the improvement of the environment and the increasing/decreasing of environmental-savvy nations.

Otherwise, I will think this is event is just another hoo-haa entertainment just to fill the human's boredom and pretend to show their concern for their environment, but in fact a hypocrite at the back.

How many of YOU, or your friend still throwing rubbish around the street, even a teeny tiny piece of chewing gum plastic paper or a can of Coke? If this simple thing people cannot do, Earth Hour is just a piece of shit.

Period.

Anti-PPSMI Demo

PPSMI stands for Pembelajaran Sains Dan Matematik dalam Bahasa Inggeris. This afternoon 2pm, there were these bunch of too-free people who doesn't have anything to do besides creating havoc, had a protest on not using English for the Science and Mathematic subjects. Shouldn't Education (moreover it involve Primary and Secondary school)not involving in this kind of politic-related demonstration.

Does teaching Science and Mathematic in English will harm the learning of Bahasa Melayu? If it does so, why don't suggest a billingual class for these? Everything solved, students who want in BM go for the BM Science and Maths class, and studens who want BI go for the BI. So easy for me to say that huh? Believe me, it's that simple.

Next time, it's better to have SJKM (Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Melayu) and SJKI (Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Inggeris). I wonder which school will produce international quality students who could compete with other nations globally? Your call.

One school system for all: Agree or Disagree?

I must be honest of my chinese community, and I speak behalf of them, that some of us always think that Malays are lazy and Indians are liars.

Hot issue over the Malaysia now whether a single secular school system should be established instead of the vernacular schools (SKJC and SKJT). Many factors the government has to look into before deciding on this implementation. And we, rakyats also have to consider whether this implementation will do us good or vice versa.

To me, being a person who studied in Sekolah Kebangsaan from Rendah till Menengah, I've seen quite a unity among the races in my schools. I myself have a quite number friends that are indians and malays and some are also my good buddies. One thing for sure will happen when there's a single secular system, a unity in races regardless of Malay, Chinese and India.

Chinese always think they are always the best, and because of the chinese, Malaysia has been flourished ever since. Chinese make businesses succeed, and think Malays are lazy that they would never succeed in business. All their business was only selling burgers and keropok lekor. Chinese always think they are treated unfairly by the government and the government would only help out those Malays. Because of this unfair treatment, Chinese work extra hard to overcome this unfavorable circumstance to them. Government doesn't give much privileges or helps to Chinese schools as compare to SK school. Chinese want their own school because they do not want their children to be influence by the other races behavior. They think chinese teachers are always more hardworking than Malay teachers. To most of them, they would avoid a single secular school system at all cost!

I must be honest of my chinese community, and I speak behalf of them, that most of us always think that Malays are lazy and Indians are liars. If I were to speak for the malay community, I would think Chinese are greedy and Indians are violent. And if I'm in the indian's shoes, I would think Chinese are sneaky like a fox. You see these all sort of perception we've established against all the races here in Malaysia? Who have taught us all these? Who have actually putting this idea into our mind? Our parents? Politicians? Friends? Own observation?

How are we going to reach a unity in Malaysia if by young we've already have this kind of perception towards each other races alraedy??? Are we to say that this is the Government fault? All of these years since independent, we've learnt nothing about unity except talking bad behind the other races.

And mind you Chinese people that if we were to go back to early 1900s, the British government were to put us as farmers and rubber tappers those time, and allocate the Malays and Indians in mining area and also businesses, we would be different by now.

Lost Generation

Somehow I feel this thing will happen one day in the future...

Just my instinct. Or rather a pessimistic point of view.
